DAY 64 - 66: Philadelphia
So Philadelphia... I was going to see what it is all about without any expectations.
(Well, I was expecting to have a lovely Philly Cheese Steak at least... :) And I had one.... but I had a better one in Memphis for sure.)
I had a good time in Philly though. Visited the first US penitentiary where they tried solitary confinement so the inmates would have time to think about what they had done. Until they realised they all went batty.
Went to a Magic Garden... Basically an artist who illegally started building walls and paths and sticking all sorts of stuff (tiles, crockery, parts of bicycles etc, etc, etc) to these walls and paths in a mosaic-way on someone's vacant section. When the owner who lived elsewhere realised, he demanded it all be taken down but by then the towns-folk had fallen in love with it, so they petitioned for it to be kept as is. Somehow they formed a community trust and bought the land.
On the whole Philly is interesting, has lots of history around the constitution etc. I believe Jefferson lived there.

From the Amtrak window on the way to Philadelphia
Another monument... who knows!
Here's an idea for all of you who might like to down-size and go minimalistic. Just cement it all to your garden walls!
Philadelphia is a modern city but it is the old part I liked
Statue of two Masons in front of the Masonic Temple
City Hall
Honestly.... I cannot remember what this was...
Went for a walk along the waterfront and there is this 4-master that is lit up at night. It is a nice restaurant. The weird thing about this waterfront area in Philadelphia is that it is absolutely dead during the day and at night it comes alive with lots of food stalls, a skating rink and people everywhere.
I stayed in the old town part of town. This is still a working post Office.
The Liberty Bell, with famous crack and all.
Independence Hall
Went for a walk in the old part of town. Beautiful buildings. Old money.
A Pretzel Dog
An Almond Croissant
Inside the Penitentiary
The Rocky statue
Rocky's foot prints
