DAY 1: San Francisco
Have you ever wondered what would happen if one of those little plastic glasses of juice or wine they give you on the plane, tipped over and spilled all over everything, including your legs, at the start of a long flight? Well, you need wonder no more cause I can tell you what happens....
So my tray-table was a bit wonky and the guy in front of me decided to wriggle around just as I got my food and drink and woops there she goes. Orange Juice... what a sticky mess. My two lovely neighbours immediately passed me their paper serviettes and I used every tissue I had on me to try and wipe up as much as I can but there was not much to be done. 6 hours it took before my pants were dry, still sticky but at least dry. A bit of advice, always wear dark coloured, preferably patterned pants on the plane, that way no-one will notice that it looks like you peed yourself when you get off the plane. :)
Never mind the sticky mess, it was a long flight: 55 minutes from Wellington to Auckland. Then I had to walk to the International Terminal as the bus was late and boarding was imminent. And then I was interviewed... apparently a new thing introduced a month ago to screen travellers to the US. Made it to the gate just as they started boarding. And then 11.5 hours to San Fran. And on this side we queued 2 hours to get our finger prints and photos taken.
When all that was done, everything was easy, got myself on a BART train to Powell Street Station and walked the few blocks to my accommodation. Once settled, I went for a wander and bought a Jacks Buttery Burger which I had at Union Square, watching the world go by. Across the street, there is a Macey's, Neiman Marcus, Sacks 5th Avenue and a sign for the Cheese Cake Factory. Will have to check out all these famous shops at some stage. But not today. It's been a long day and I am pooped.
How sad! This is the only photo I took today. Forgot to take
the camera when I went out wandering.
