DAY 210 - 215: Luderitz to Wellington

How ridiculous is this? I booked my ticket with Air Namibia from Lüderitz to Windhoek in April 2018. Flight SW146 leaving at 2:05 on Sunday 2/12/18. I show up at the airport at 1pm on the day as per their instructions, to find their only flight for the day, flight SW143 chocka full and ready to take off a whole hour earlier. No flight SW146.... that flight has been cancelled.... without letting me and another German man know. The original flight and our bookings were however still visib le online!!!! Problem is, the next flight out of town is the next day (Monday) and I would miss my Quatar flight from Windhoek to Doha. The next Quatar flight out of Windhoek leaves on Wednesday, getting me home on Friday, 2 days late! So on Monday morning I get to the Air Namibia office bright and early… no problem. They issue me with a new ticket for the same day from Luderitz to Windhoek. They also assure me they have organised for me to be picked up from the airport and taken into Windhoek ...

DAY 179 - 209: Luderitz Part 5: Koichab Camping in the Dunes

Image
Part of my brother's business is guided 4X4 Dune Driving / Camping trips. I was fortunate enough to once again go along for 2 nights sleeping in tents miles from human habitation. It is one of the most amazing experiences. I am not really comfortable with the idea of driving over the dunes, sliding down the steep side. It scares me stiff but I know I am in good hands and that helps. Don't think I would do it with anyone but my little Bro behind the wheel.                                                                            Our Irish couple and South African-Irish couple. I kept thinking about Mrs Brown's Boys... especially when Rory got going! One of the Koichab pump stations where Lüderitz gets it's drinking water from. The trailer was really not going to play along. L...

DAY 179 - 209: Luderitz Part 4 - Elizabethbucht

Image
I had heaps of fun joining Heinz and his guests on their trips around the Peninsula,to Kolmans and Elizabethbucht. Not sure if I was a help or a hinderance but I sure had a good time. We had groups from Austria, Switzerland, Germany and even a couple from New Zealand. Sign in the café at Kolmans. The sell really special things at the shop at Kolmans, be it this Prickly Pear Juice or the Nam Flavaspices, it sure is a treat. Kolmans - the foundations in the foreground, next to the "tree" are all that is left of the home of where my father grew up. Every time I visit, there is less left. Nature is reclaiming it all.  In New Zealand the Health and Safety people would have a lot to say about people just freely walking around, into and over these ruins. They would not trust you to be sensible and keep yourself safe.     The Atlantic as seen through a hole in a very thick wall. And there she is, the old brown hyena, Obelixia. ...
